As part of our Feminine Sensual Fridays, I dedicate two Fridays each month to one of the beautiful, sensational, vibrant women in our program. As part of our journey we each select an alter ego, a Burlesque name, to inspire the changes we wish to unleash in our lives. Today you meet Lola Sinsational!
Who is Lola Sinsational?
Forty two year old, graphic designer, Lola Sinsational, is a woman of persistence, a killer smile and awesome eyebrows (as told by a male friend – a bit unusual but she agrees …and so do we)!
She’s married with a lovely dog named Phoebe, After adopting her from the Humane Society her husband said,’“She’s the best thing I have ever found on the internet”!
Lola Sinsational loves her Saturday mornings. At 6:30 am every Saturday morning she sets out on a walk in the woods with her husband and Phoebe. “It’s a simple act but it’s our happy place being surrounded by the calm quiet woods, experiencing the sunrise and leaving the hectic world behind for an hour or so.”
Although she says her special talent is yet to be discovered, she did share , in relation to burlesque, “I can twirl tassels on pasties”!
An Interesting Twist
“I used to volunteer for the Ottawa Lumiere Festival, making lanterns. I am not a trained artist, but was encouraged to develop a larger installation design and submit it into the competition to receive funding to actually build it. It got approved and I got to build my 6-ft vision and have it displayed as part of the festival along with local professional artists’ installations.”
Fearless and Free
One question we often ask our participants is, “if you could do any one thing in life, without fear holding you back, what would it be?” Lola Sinsational would love to travel to India. She is enamored with the culture, the food, and so much more. However, she thinks it would be an overwhelming experience.
Power of Class
As part of the Transformational Burlesque program the women identify qualities within themselves that they wish to unleash in order to live a more vibrant, fulfilling life! The women can choose whether or not to share these with the other women in a safe and supportive environment. Lola Sinsational reveals that she is working on giving herself permission to let go and let her movements look and feel natural. She is also working on developing cheeky & flirty confidence.
When we asked her what she loves about the class she had this to say, “being part of a group where there is no judgement — everyone is on their own journey and each one is equally important. Also recognizing and acknowledging behaviours about myself and being open to changing them.”
Oh la la…the Sensual Side
In addition to unleashing characteristics such as self-confidence, self-love and self-value, the women are also working on opening up their sensual sides, to experience the full range of feminine energies. Over time, women can cover their femininity with protective layers until its hidden deep within…being a mom, a career woman, an athlete, experiencing a negative life event or demands on our time can all take a toll pushing some of our sensual elements to the back burner. So, we asked Lola Sinsational about a few things she enjoys that elicit a sensual feeling. Here’s what she had to say:
What is your favourite song: Currently it’s a soundtrack rather then a song: Only Lovers Left Alive. It’s gritty, exotic, with a middle-eastern flair that resonates with me.
What colour makes you feel sensual/happy/calm ? Sensual – purples. Happy – oranges. Calm – greens.
What food makes your sensual tastebuds tingle? Hard to pick just one as I really enjoy cooking and baking. But one thing I have yet to be able to replicate is red thai curry — something about it makes my mouth water and leaves me wanting more.
What’s you favourite fabric to feel on your skin? Cotton, especially freshly laundered bed linens. It’s always a treat to get into a fresh, clean bed.
What scent makes you melt? First thing that comes to mind is lilac. I will literally stop and inhale the sweet scent when they are in full bloom.
Please feel free to leave Lola Sinsational a comment below. Her bright energy and openness is a beautiful energy to have in class!
